The project is truly a national effort with more than 725 authors and
reviewers involved in the production of fact sheets. About 45 states representing
approximately 99 percent of the pork production in the United States are
using all or some of the fact sheets.
To strengthen individually owned farms and to provide for the wise use of resources in the production of pork.
To increase the efficient use of extension specialist's time by lessening the amount of duplication in many swine subject matter publications.
To provide for more efficient and economical distribution of technical information and to recognize and identify voids in research.

Authors also are chosen, generally more than one for each fact sheet.
One or more reviewers are assigned and consulted. They evaluate the fact sheets and are credited for review in the publication. Fact sheets also are reviewed by this committee.
The goal is to maintain a handbook that is current by the addition of new fact sheets and the revision of others.
For more information about the Pork Industry Handbook, contact Iowa
State University Extension. You can order a copy of the handbook in print,
